The bouquet of san Giovanni
Sunday 23 June 2024, 10:30am - 12:00pm

On the days of the Summer Solstice, echoes of ancient times resound in the tradition of the Mazzetto di San Giovanni (St John's small bunch): what herbs are gathered and where does the custom come from?

We invite you to take an in-depth look at the ethnobotanical symbologies linked to St John in our territories: a journey that goes back in time, to the ancient bond between human beings and the botanical world, to ritual uses and pharmacological properties.

We will discover what St. John's Wort, artemisia, rosemary, rue, lavender and other species tell us, in a rediscovery of the myths linked to the plants and the stories that each of them brings with them in their officinal and ritual use over the centuries.

At the end of the meeting, we will experience the tale by constructing our own personal St John's Mazzetto: we will discover the meaning of tying the herbs with the red ribbon and why it should be hung on the door, thus taking home a piece of our ancient traditions linked to the solstice.
